Section 22
Provisions relating to health examinations
(1) The prison office shall provide free medical examination and treatment to all prisoners by the government doctor at least once in two months regularly and as required.
(2) According to sub-section (1), health: If it is found that a prisoner needs to be treated in a health institution during the examination, he should be kept in a health institution in the prison.
(3) Medicines regularly consumed by the prisoner shall be made available by the prison office.
(4) Prisoners: If there is no health facility in the prison or if it is not suitable according to the nature of the treatment, in other health facilities related to the prison and if it is not suitable to receive treatment in such a health facility, treatment can be done in other suitable health facilities on the recommendation of the doctor.
(5)-Notwithstanding what is written elsewhere in this section/if any prisoner wants to be treated by any other doctor or health institution at his own expense, the prison administrator may allow such treatment after completing the prescribed procedure. (6) A prisoner kept in a health institution during the course of treatment under this section shall be treated as if he were in prison and that period shall be counted in the period of his imprisonment.
(7) If any prisoner undergoing treatment under this section recovers, he shall be re-imprisoned unless his term of imprisonment has been paid or there is no need to imprison him for other reasons.
(8) According to the prevailing law, the medicines distributed free of charge by the Government of Nepal shall be distributed free of charge to the respective prisoners through the respective hospitals or health posts.
